Katie Workum creates dances that find and celebrate new ways to create and see through improvisation, physical risk, humor and community.  Her latest research“Here are the Mountains,”  will be both a performance and a live gallery installation. The galleries is assembled  from layers of personal belongings, objects from the space inhabited, fantastical goods, natural matter, live and recorded soundscapes while the performers create and respond to the landscape itself, grounded in our repeated improvisational practice.  With her veteran company members Eleanor Smith, Weena Pauly, they make space for a large and vetted space for new and electric kinetic clarity, creating a new and live dance anew each performance.

Katie Workum’s dances attempt to access the parts of us that have no words, the parts humming underneath our thinking brains; surpassing expression and pushing into parallel systems of being. She is interested in using performance to create community, and strives to create a generous space between dancer and viewer to broaden our specific viewpoints and bring us to a broader collective.

"Workum has the courage of her idiosyncrasies… the appealing cast moves… into some unpredictably delightful terrain."
—Brian Seibert, The New Yorker

"The whimsical Ms. Workum builds up and breaks down tensions between enclosed spaces and boundless ones, between private rituals and group dynamics."
—Siobhan Burke, New York Times
